Your privacy at FurFit Tag
Last updated: 03/11/2026
A lost pet needs its family to be easy to reach, without that family giving up their privacy. That idea shapes what FurFit Tag asks for and what it shows. This page sets out how we meet our duties under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version
- Finders never see your surname or home address.
- Your mobile number stays hidden unless you switch it on.
- A finder's location is only shared when they tap the button and allow it.
- No advertising trackers, no marketing messages, and we don't sell anyone's details.
- You can delete your account yourself, whenever you like.
If your pet wears a tag
To set up your account and look after your pet, we ask for:
- your first name, email, mobile and suburb
- your pet's name, species, breed, colour and photo
- any medical or reward notes you'd like a finder to read
- a microchip or council number, if you add one. These are never shown to finders
Buying a tag adds your delivery name and address, email, quantity and amount paid. Stripe takes the payment, so your full card number never reaches us. With Premium, we also hold your plan and its renewal or trial dates. We count how often the lost-mode Premium offer appears and how trials turn out.
We use all this to alert you when your tag is scanned, run your account, send sign-in links, post your tag, manage Premium and meet our record-keeping duties.
If you've found a pet
Thank you. You can help without an account. Here's what a scan records:
- when the page was opened
- your location, only if you choose to share it
- your message and phone number, only if you send them
- your device type and a scrambled form of your internet address, which help us stop misuse
Your location, message and number go to the pet's family, including emergency contacts while the pet is missing. Saying no to location is fine, and you can still send a message.
If someone lists you as an emergency contact
Owners add your name and mobile after confirming you're happy to help. We text you only when their missing pet's tag is scanned. To stop, ask the owner or email us.
What other people can see
Scanning a tag shows the pet's name, photo, species, breed, colour, medical and reward notes, whether they're missing, and the owner's first name. It shows the owner's mobile only if that setting is on.
A missing poster shows those same details to anyone holding its link, for as long as the pet is marked as lost. Pet photos sit at public web addresses, so a photo's direct link would open it for whoever has it.
The companies that help us
FurFit Tag relies on a small group of providers, who handle information only to do their job:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and pet photos, held in Sydney
- Vercel: website hosting
- Twilio: text alerts
- Resend: emails
- Stripe: payments, checkout and billing pages
- our tag maker and delivery service
Vercel, Twilio, Resend and Stripe may handle information outside Australia, including in the United States. Map links open in Google Maps, which has its own privacy policy.
Beyond these, we'd pass on information only if the law required it, or to a buyer of the business who agreed to follow this policy.
Keeping it safe, and for how long
Connections are encrypted, and database rules keep each owner to their own records. No website can rule out every risk. If a breach is likely to seriously harm you, we'll tell you and the Australian privacy regulator, as the law requires.
Your information stays until you delete your account. Doing that in Settings immediately erases your profile, pets, photos, contacts and scans, ends any Premium plan and switches off your tags. Copies can linger briefly in backups. Order and payment records, including delivery details, stay for as long as business and tax rules require, and Stripe holds its own.
You're in control
Settings and your pet's page let you change your details, hide your number or delete everything. For a copy of what we hold, or a correction you can't make yourself, just ask. It's free, though we may first check it's really you.
FurFit Tag accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. We delete any account we learn belongs to someone younger.
